Our Club
Established in 1883, the Newcastle City Australian Football Club is one of the oldest, largest and most progressive AFL clubs in the Hunter region. Currently we field teams in every grade through both the junior and senior competitions, as well as three netball teams in the Newcastle Netball Association.
The club competes in the Hunter Central Coast AFL League. Our Premier Division Men’s and Women’s teams compete for the Black Diamond Cup, Australia’s oldest continually contested sporting trophy.
City won its first Men’s 1st Grade Premiership in 1884 and has won more First Grade flags than any other club – 24 including three seasons (1964, 1973 and 2011) undefeated. The club won 4 Premierships in a row from 2008 to 2011, with the last premiership in 2018.
Our Women’s team was established as part of the inaugural season of the Women’s competition in 2015. They have won 5 Premiership flags in this time and winning 4 in a row from 2017 to 2020 including an undefeated season in 2017. City was the first Club in the league to field a second Women’s team in the competition and has now done so for 3 seasons.
